Kalb's Take

"A fascinating, richly detailed story...He takes full advantage of his access by quoting them extensively, even in private conversations between a husband and a wife, and enriching his narrative with intimate insights and little-known facts about this secret negotiation or that meeting between anchor and president."
--The first major newspaper review of REALITY SHOW, by Marvin Kalb in The Washington Post.
(Note: These things are kept so secret that I had no idea who was reviewing the book.)

Jeez, it's going to be great when you and Broder ride off into the sunset! As it is, it's hard enough to get through these dark bush days. But with you two around, the darkness and hypocrisy becomes mind-numbing.

The incestuous relationship between network anchorpersons and the politicians they cover.

Weird, I could have sworn you and Marvin were brothers, too.

Mr. Kurtz recently wrote:

"I agree that leakers often get to set the story line, but I also know that Democrats are not unfamiliar with the practice. (Remember the Bush DUI leak just before the 2000 election?) And those who leaked information about domestic surveillance, Abu Ghraib and secret CIA prisons also had an impact."

Do you have proof that Democrats were behind the Abu Ghraib, CIA Rendition, and DUI Stories? Can you please point to that?

Also, do you really believe that leaks about torture and secret prisons are the same as leaks about Edwards haircuts and Hillary's cleavage?

I can't imagine that your book has much to offer in the way of insights if the above quote is an example of how you think.

Can you please write more about your goat-blowing hobby, Mr. Kurtz?

Tucker Carlson made an interesting point when I was on his show today.

I just realized this website is 100% parody. Whoever is behind this: keep it up!

You, Fred Hiatt, and David Broder are doing a bang up job. Iglesias too.

It's just like Woodstein, Graham, and Bradlee have been reincarnated.

Keep speaking truth to power lunch attendees.

You are the bomb man!

Kurtz, you have the most ass-kissing show on tv. I guess that's why your so enamored of Andrew Sullivan. You two certainly make a pair of Milky loads.

I looked at your book and it's missing the subtitle: "As told by Sherri Annis".

Howie must have lost his moral compass--or traded it in for membership in the kewl kid klub. He remains unable to distinguish between repub lies about bushie disasters (Iraq, Abu Gharib, the economy) and Edward's haircut. If you like Howie's crap, thrn your lobotomy worked.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone asked you yet why you invite a racist and anti-semite like Glenn Reynolds onto your show?

Anonymous said...

Well, it's well established that Mickey Kaus blows goats, but I didn't know about this guy. Has it been on Drudge yet? Then these media pundits will know it is true.

I agree with anonymous at 1:26. Only a freaking rube would equate haircut and cleavage stories with stories about grave violations of the constitution.

Who gives people like this a podium? They should be Walmart greeters.

I wonder when Mr. Kurtz will start linking to his fellow journalist, Jeff "8 inches uncut" Gannon.

I think if you smear Max Cleland, Jack Murtha and John Kerry and and say those attacks on Jeff Gannon were 'homophobic', some obese draft dodger with a radio show might give you a plug.

The Comments are very interesting reading, and I would hope Mr. Kurtz would continue the current policy of allowing all commenter.
Kurtz himself, of course is a 'spit in the corner of the mouth' moron, an access whore, and really not all that bright. He is a dumber version of Chris Matthews. And that is pretty damn dumb.

Sinfonian said...

You must be kidding me. Could there be a more narcissistic, self-pleasuring blog than this one?

I know all blogs have a measure of ego in them, but holy crap, Howie, reading this is like listening to you masturbate. "Oh, Howie, you're so good ... yeah, just like that ... tell me more about your lunch with George Will."

Seriously, d00d, give it a rest. This is an environmental disaster, based purely on the waste of energy and bandwidth.

Anonymous said...

My initial reaction, like a number of other commenters, was that this "info-blog" is hilarious. On reflection, it's kind of sad. I really recommend you let it go, before you fall into sock puppetry.

TomT said...

This blog is just plain sad.

What's even sadder is that you have a position of influence in our media.

Pack this blog away in amber so that historians will be able to see just what it was that went so wrong in early 21st century America.

Anonymous said...

I guess if you have an IQ of, say, 90, a story about Edwards' haircut probably seems just as important as a real news story.

daphne said...

First of all, sinfonian: back atcha. Now, I can't believe I really get to say what I've been thinking for years - or writing elsewhere, where there's zero chance of Howie coming across it.

I stopped watching RS when Howie declared FOX mouthpiece Britt Hume an objective reporter. Haven't checked in since. Long before that I wondered what was vaguely annoying about Kurtz until that vague annoyance surfaced into a fullblown realization: there's no existential angst in him. No grownup sensibilities, you know, neither on the program, in his column, nor (especially) now on his blog. It's really quite eerie regardless of the format or tone, in case you were about to use that (it's supposed to be light and airy) as your defense.

And now for a real treat: "Democrats are not unfamiliar with the practice..." What's wrong with that phrase..."NOT UNfamiliar with..." Sure, it's a deliberate double negative, but what's the point? To be superbly polite and unaggressive, even urbane, I would imagine. I've noticed this tendency in other journalists, and as a literary device, let me just say it's extremely UNeffective.

That is all for now.

Anonymous said...

You've got balls of steel, m'man, allowing all comments. Or maybe you just had no idea what people think of you outside of the clubby circles you move in, but hey, you've left 'em up so far, and I'm impressed.

I still find you a detestable oaf for the way you've aided and abetted the erosion of our national discourse, but then, I suck at my job too--it's not our responsibility to make sure our bosses get their money's worth, am I right?

Anyway, just thought I'd pay you a compliment, backhanded though it may be. God knows when I'll have the chance or the inclination to do so again.

Anonymous said...

Daphne,

Your comment on Kurtz's wording is interesting. What I see in it is the same passive-aggressiveness I see in Instapundit, Kurtz's favorite blogger. Instapundit won't come out and say, for example, that he is uncomfortable with Jews. He won't come out and say Soros is a Nazi. Instead, he'll let Tammy Bruce call Soros part of a Gestapo, and applaud Bruce for it. He is just bright enough to not come right out and say something so blatantly anti-semitic. He lets someone else say it for him, and he applauds it obliquely.

Kurtz does something similar. He knows the argument that the Democrats employ the same tactics is incorrect. Instead, he uses weasel words to insinuate it. This makes the wingnuts who need his "MSM" approval to be satisfied while shielding him from direct rebuttal. He thinks anyway. Anyone with a brain knows what he is up to, though.

Where o' where is Media Whores Online???? Come back! Save us from this horror!

And those who leaked information about domestic surveillance, Abu Ghraib and secret CIA prisons also had an impact."

Ummmmm, is that a "leak" by Democrats or is that what most people would, in fact, call "reporting"?

People were tortured and beaten to death, were sexually humiliated, and were even photographed in various degrading positions (such as dead) that caused a furor around the world - god only knows the price(s) we'll pay for this in the long run.

But, hey! Hillary's got tits(!) and Edwards had to pay a stylist for her entire day's wages since she couldn't, ya know, cut anyone else's hair that day since she were traveling back and forth to cut his.

Which one of these things is not like the other ones?

Howie, I'm not going to pour invective upon you like nearly all the other commenters.

I would just ask you to consider the fact that, you know, maybe you don't really get it and those of us out here might have a point or two worth considering.

You suck up to really horrible people like Glenn Reynolds and Michelle Malkin and then play this false equivalency rhetorical game. It's really revolting to those of us out here sick of the media playing along with the GOP. It's been done for so long that you don't realize you're being punked any longer.

I would suggest you spend a year outside the Beltway, away from the cocktail parties and such, and reconnect with the rest of America. Then you might realize what we're all on about.

Amen, Anonymous who posted at 10:08 PM. Mr. Kurtz, if you are reading these, you really need to at least get the germ of the concept that you are so entrenched with the elite that you have no idea that you are enabling the end of our great nation. There is no equivalence between the kind of spew coming from the right wing and what the rest of us think.

You, and people like Broder and others who claim this mythical middle ground, do us all a terrible disservice by giving voice to lies and hate, all in the name of "bi-partisanship."

Take a stand, Big Man. By not taking one, you are helping the worst among us to continue their destruction.

Heard that Janet Cooke, Lally Weymouth and George Will are going to have reception for ole' Howie.

Mr. Kurtz,

Do you see the role of a journalist as one who is supposed to shine light on truth or as one who is supposed to provide both sides of every story and then allow the reader to decide where the truth lies?

It seems to me that journalism seems to be divided into those 2 camps, and I was wondering your take on that.

Thank you,

Tross

I really really really hope this is a parody site. I'm staring to fear that it isn't, though - an actual parodist wouldn't be quite so monotonous with the self-congratulatory vapidity.

If it is a parody, the author needs to mix it up a bit more - hit a few more notes than the endless focus on self-promoting minutia, maybe bring in some stuff about the wingnut wife.

If it isn't a parody... oh.my.god.

I amuse myself by believing that not only is this blog NOT a parody, but also that ole Howie hates the comments here and can't figure out how to disable them.

I'm still convinced that this is a very, very good parody.

Yes, Kurtz is really dumb and tone-deaf and utterly shameless at writing propaganda with a straight and pretentious face, but this just makes him look completely ridiculous.

Until I find a link to this from his column at the Post, I'll assume that this is a really, really good parody.

Ken Silverstein takes it seriously, though, (and makes the appropriate ridicule):

Did Ken pwned Howie, or did some prankster pwned Ken?

It's October 22nd, 2007:

John Edwards, meanwhile, is still a millionaire and can, as an American, spend his money on any fucking thing he wants (regardless of if he spends his time advocating for middle and lower-class Americans or not.) It's true! He can!

Zen question for the day: will "journalists" still care how much electricity Nobel peace Prize winner Al Gore uses at his home when it goes solar?

How about no more gail shister on the show. Jeez, if you miss the forest through the trees, she misses the trees through the twigs.
